First Peoples Principles of Learning

The First People’s Principles of Learning were originally created in connection with FNESC when the province created English 12 First Peoples. The committee intended to integrate traditional First Peoples pedagogies into this new course, and these 9 points were what they used. The new BC curriculum now has a greater focus on supporting learning about FNMI culture and history and the use of FPPL’s supports this. They are a way to look at learning in a way that goes beyond our traditional colonial way of teaching and learning and instead, look at how we can integrate Indigenous pedagogies into classrooms now. The pedagogies are not only meant to support Indigenous students but also non-Indigenous students.
